Fruit-flavoured water

Drinking plain water has never really been a problem for me. I always start my day with a glass of water. But I know some people don’t like the taste of water. My advice… try fruit-infused water. It is simply colourful and cost-effective way  to stay hydrated.

Why it is so important?

Even though water has no calories or other nutrients, we can go only for few days without it. Our bodies are about 60% water. It is essential to virtually every body function – digestion, transport of nutrients, elimination of body waste, regulation of body temperature and other chemical  processes.

How much do we need?

The human body needs enough water to ensure that the urine is pale, not dark or bright yellow. Average adult needs 6 – 8 glasses of water a day. Most of this comes from drinks – plain water, tea, coffee juices, but also from fruits and vegetables. Our daily needs vary a lot. We need more water in hot weather, during exercises or when we have a fever or cold. We need also more liquids during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Did you know that if you are craving for a snack, try a glass of water first. Often when you think you are hungry, you may actually be thirsty.

How to stay hydrated?

Simplest way to drink more water is to start each day by putting a large jug or bottle in front of you where you’ll be reminded to drink it. If you are bored with plain water, why not to try fruit-infused one? It tastes delicious, looks appealing and takes seconds to put together from ingredients you’re already likely to have in the house. It just feels so refreshing, summery, and let’s be honest, fun! You can buy special bottle or just prepare it in the jag. You can start with simply adding lemon & lime, lemon & mint, strawberries or experiment with for example rosemary & watermelon, thyme or basil & strawberry, or ginger, mint & lime.
